What Is Cosmelan®?
Looking into facial pigmentation removal options like fractional lasers in Singapore? Consider VIDASKIN Medical Aesthetic Clinic's Cosmelan® Depigmentation Peel, a multi-ingredient chemical treatment designed to significantly reduce areas of hyperpigmentation and skin discolouration. This procedure can treat various types of pigmentation, including melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, solar and senile lentigo (age spots) and freckles.
Cosmelan® is a peel procedure to reduce surface pigment followed by a special skincare regime to reduce pigment over three months. This treats the source of pigment by reducing melanin overproduction at the melanocyte.
How Does Cosmelan® Work?
The Cosmelan® procedure works by restricting the production of melanin pigments to provide an even complexion. The ongoing use of the Cosmelan® II cream for post-salon treatment will reduce the likelihood of hyperpigmentation returning.
If you are undergoing any other skin treatments in Singapore, especially ones including glycolic acid, you must stop these completely at least one week prior to attending your Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment. The Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment can only be administered by trained professionals, and you should continue with the support products at home, on a daily basis, according to the guidelines indicated.
Benefits Of Cosmelan®
COSMELAN® IS A DEPIGMENTING AGENT USED TO LIGHTEN SKIN. COSMELAN INHIBITS AN ENZYME CALLED TYROSINASE, WHICH IS INVOLVED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF MELANIN.
- Removes dark spots and hyperpigmentation on face
- Lightening and correcting skin blemishes caused by melanin pigments
- Comfortable treatment
- Quick results
- Gentle for all skin types
How Is This Treatment Like?
The initial treatment with Cosmelan® is always done in a clinic and begins with an evaluation of your skin type. This is followed a 4-phase treatment, consisting of a protocol for the elimination and control of the spots, rather than a one-time remedy. Here's what you may expect:
Phase 1: Intense Depigmentation
The skin is first cleansed to remove dead cells and superficial debris. The aesthetic professional will then apply Cosmelan® 1 for intensive depigmenting action. The mask is left on for a total of 4-8 hours depending on your skin type. This produces the removal of the melanin deposits of the skin, as well as its renewal.
Following this, you will be allowed to go home with the mask on. After the initial application time has elapsed, the mask is removed with water and a neutral cleanser before applying the mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K cream.
Phases 2, 3 and 4: Depigmentation, Regulation and Control
The second stage is the home protocol recommended by the aesthetic professional. The patient must follow an application guideline of cosmeceuticals complementary to the method.
To prevent the reappearance of spots, protocol includes:
- Cosmelan 2: facial cream for removing and/or reducing spots of melanic origin, applied 2-3 times a day, following the application of the mask, then once a day from then on.
- Melan recovery: balm with calming and healing effect.
- Melan 130 pigment control: very high solar protection and colour.
Continual daily use is recommended for the best results.
What Can I Expect With One Treatment Of Cosmelan®?
As the Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment is safe for all ethnicities and skin tones, anyone seeking out a fresher, more even complexion is an ideal candidate. Within a week, clients will see skin blemishes begin to fade significantly, and a brighter complexion will break through.
Does Cosmelan® Work With Any Type Of Dark Spot?
With cosmelan®, we treat all types of spots of melanin origin on the face. Those are spots originating due to melanin overproduction triggered by several factors (hormonal, genetic, post-acne, post-depilation factors, etc.) that worsen due to sun exposure. Therefore, cosmelan® is an effective treatment to work towards removing facial dark spots, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations (PIH), solar, senile lentigo and freckles in Singapore.
How Does Cosmelan® Act Against Acne?
Cosmelan® is a depigmentation treatment; therefore, it is not indicated to treat active acne. If you would like to treat acne in its different phases of acneic and seborrhoeic skin, we recommend the acnelan medical treatment. However, acne has an inflammatory component that can lead to the appearance of skin spots, known as PIH (Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). cosmelan® is effective on this type of spot caused by acne in all skin types and phototypes.
Not Just A Peel - cosmelan® peel
Although often referred to as cosmelan® peel, the cosmelan® treatment goes beyond a peel. Unlike peels, which act on the surface of the problem, cosmelan® gets to the root of the problem. It consists in a treatment that visibly removes and attenuates facial pigmentation (like a peel) while exerting a regulating action that corrects the overproduction of pigmentation and prevents the spots from reappearing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hyperpigmentation Treatments
1. What are the side effects of Cosmelan®?
There may be temporary redness, tightness and/or itchiness on the treated area of your skin after the Cosmelan® Depigmentation Peel treatment. If you are deciding between Cosmelan®, fractional lasers or other types of pigmentation removal treatments in Singapore for your melasma condition, feel free to contact us for more information.
2. How long does the Cosmelan® treatment last?
In most cases, skin blemishes start to disappear within the first week after beginning the Cosmelan® treatment. The darker the skin tone, the longer the time it takes for the pigmentation to disappear. The skin starts to appear shiny and healthy looking in 2-3 weeks. In most individuals, facial dark spots cannot be seen in 4-6 weeks.
3. What should you not do after Cosmelan®?
After the Cosmelan® treatment, make it a habit to apply the home treatment as required. Not following the home regimen can interrupt the treatment and will, therefore, not obtain the expected results. Not applying Cosmelan® 2 depigmenting cream with regulating action involves not regulating the melanocyte and, thus, a persistent uncontrolled, excessive production of melanin. The spot will reappear as the skin layers are renewed, and melanin migrates to the surface making the spot increasingly evident.
Not using photoprotection, melan 130 pigment control, involves a very high risk that the spot returns, as skin is more sensitive and receptive to external aggressions during the treatment.
