Cosmelan reduces and eliminates acquired skin blemishes of melanic origin, increasing skin luminosity and equalising skin tone.

Cosmelan is perhaps the most powerful skin lightening therapy available when compared to other depigmentation treatments currently possible on the market. For up to 95% reduction with the world’s leading and most effective treatment for pigmentation caused by melanin.

What Is Cosmelan®?

The Cosmelan® Depigmentation Peel is a unique, multi-ingredient chemical procedure designed to significantly reduce areas of hyperpigmentation and skin discolouration. Cosmelan® can treat all types of pigmentation such as melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, solar and senile lentigo (age spots) and freckles.

Cosmelan® is a peel procedure to reduce surface pigment followed by a special skincare regime to reduce pigment over three months. This treats the source of pigment by reducing melanin overproduction at the melanocyte.

How Does Cosmelan® Work?

The Cosmelan® procedure reduces the skin’s natural melanin production by restricting the production of melanin to provide an even complexion. Dull skin, dark spots, dry areas, blemishes, and even acne scars can all be significantly decreased with the peel.

The ongoing use of the Cosmelan® II cream for post-salon treatment will continue to reduce the likelihood of the hyper-pigmentation returning. Cosmelan® is up to 95% effective for dramatically addressing areas of hyperpigmentation, melasma, and blotchy or scarred skin.

If you are undergoing any other skin treatments, especially ones which include glycolic acid, you must stop these completely at least one week prior to attending your Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment. The Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment can only be administered by trained professionals and you should continue with the support products at home, on a daily basis, according to the guidelines indicated.

How Is This Treatment Like?

The initial treatment with Cosmelan® is always done in a clinic. The first part involves evaluation of the skin type by the doctor.

The cleansing of the skin is done to remove the dead cells and superficial debris. After the skin washing, Cosmelan® 1 is applied. The mask is left on for a total of 4-8 hours depending on your skin type. Following this, you will be allowed to go home with the mask on. After the initial application time has elapsed, the mask is removed with water and a neutral cleanser.

Immediately following the cleansing of the face, the mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K cream is applied. The second stage is the home maintenance program. It consists of the daily application of the Cosmelan® II cream. The cream is applied 2-3 times a day, following the application of the mask, then once a day from then on. Continual daily use is recommended for the best results.

In most cases, skin blemishes start to disappear within the first week after starting treatment. The darker the skin tone, the longer the time it takes for the spots to disappear. The skin starts to appear shiny and healthy looking in 2-3 weeks. In most individuals dark spots can not be seen in 4-6 weeks.

Phase 1: intense depigmentation

Although many people refer to it as “Cosmelan® peel”, the treatment consists of 4 phases that turn it into a protocol for the elimination and control of the spots rather than a one-time remedy.

single session in cabin in which the aesthetic professional applies Cosmelan® 1 mask for an intensive depigmenting action. We must let the mask act for 8-12 hours. This produces the removal of the melanin deposits of the skin, as well as its renewal.

Phases 2, 3 and 4: depigmentation, regulation and control

Home protocol recommended by the aesthetic professional. The patient must follow an application guideline of cosmeceuticals complementary to the method. This is part of the depigmentation process and also the way to prevent the reappearance of spots.

The protocol includes:

What Can I Expect With One Treatment Of Cosmelan®?

As the Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment is safe for all ethnicities and skin tones, anyone seeking out a fresher, more even complexion is an ideal candidate.

Within a week, clients will see skin blemishes begin to fade significantly, and a brighter complexion will break through. After a couple of weeks, the skin will take on a dramatically shinier, healthier glow. These results will continue to improve even further over the following weeks when the full benefits of a Cosmelan Peel can be seen.

In most cases the appearance of blemishes improves by 95%. Most individuals will see a significant improvement in their skin color, tone and texture just one week after starting the Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment. New luminous and healthy skin will appear in 3-6 weeks.

What Happens If I Stop Applying The Home Treatment?

If you do not follow the home regimen, you are interrupting the treatment and will therefore not obtain the expected results. Not applying Cosmelan® 2 depigmenting cream with regulating action involves not regulating the melanocyte and, therefore, a persistent uncontrolled, excessive production of melanin. The spot will reappear as the skin layers are renewed, as melanin migrates to the surface making the spot increasingly evident.

Not using photoprotection, melan 130 pigment control, involves a very high risk that the spot returns, as skin is more sensitive and receptive to external aggressions during the treatment.

Does Cosmelan® Work With Any Type Of Spot?

With cosmelan® we treat all types of spots of melanin origin, that is, spots originating due to melanin overproduction triggered by several factors (hormonal, genetic, post-acne, post-depilation factors, etc.) that worsen due to sun exposure. Therefore, cosmelan® is effective to treat spots such as: melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations (PIH), solar, senile lentigo and freckles.

How Does Cosmelan® Act Against Acne?

cosmelan® is a depigmentation treatment; therefore, it is not indicated to treat active acne. If you would like to treat acne in its different phases of acneic and seborrhoeic skin, we recommend the acnelan medical treatment (active link to acnelan's consumer page). However, acne has an inflammatory component that can lead to the appearance of skin spots, known as PIH (Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). cosmelan® is effective on this type of spots caused by acne, in all skin types and phototypes.

Not Just A Peel - cosmelan® peel

Although often referred to as cosmelan® peel, the cosmelan® treatment goes beyond a peel. Unlike peels, which act on the surface of the problem, cosmelan® gets to the root of the problem. It consists in a treatment that visibly removes and attenuates pigmentation spots (like a peel) while exerting a regulating action that corrects the overproduction of pigmentation and prevents the spots from reappearing.
